In 2018, there are 4.9 billion mobile users:

This is, of course, a big number and is equal to 66% of the total population of the world. Of this 4.9 billion, there are 2.5 billion smartphone users worldwide. This number means more than half of the mobile users use a smartphone. This is because of the increasing popularity and usage of the smartphones. It is estimated that alone India and China have over one billion mobile subscribers and these countries will contribute around 50% of the mobile users’ growth during 2017-2020.

Android become the leading OS leaving behind Windows

By far, Windows was ruling the OS market due to more usage of PC than smartphones. However, Android overtook Windows in 2018 with a market share of 40.11% in Feb 2018. This is because most of the developing nations are opting smartphones than PCs, particularly in Asian Countries and increased android mobiles manufacturing in these countries.

Huawei overtakes Apple in Global smartphone sales:

According to Counterpoint’s Market Pulse, July 2017, Huawei left behind Apple in global smartphones sales. Huawei has become the second largest smartphone maker in the world. The rising popularity of Huawei phones is due to their large displays and advanced camera functions.

Most preferred screen size is 4.5 inches to 5 inches:

Generally speaking, mobile phones with diagonal screen sizes ranging from 4.5 to 5 inches are getting popular. In regions where iPhones are popular, 4.7-inch screen is popular while in Android preferred regions, 5 inches, 5.1 inches and 5.5 inches screens are popular.

According to Internet Advertising Bureau (IAB), Mobile advertising revenue has hit $83 billion in 2016 and is expected to increase by 100% in 2019. This confirms that mobile companies are investing in mobile-first media consumption and advertising environment.

Apps usage, in mobile, increasing

According to Stats, digital usage on mobile phones has increased from 0.3 hours in 2008 to 3.1 hours in 2017. Of this, 80-90% of the time is spent on mobile apps in the USA, UK, Canada, Spain, China, Italy, Indonesia, Brazil, and Mexico. This is clearly indicated by the Apps download data. In 2016, around 90 billion apps were downloaded which has increased to 197 billion in the year 2017.

Desktop conversion rates still higher in e-commerce:

According to a data calculating conversion rates for e-commerce, the maximum conversion rates in 2017 came from desktop followed by smartphones and tablets, this proves that e-commerce companies still have to do a lot to increase their conversion rates on mobile devices especially when media usage on mobile in higher than desktops.

• Be it the health, sports or food & beverages, around 50% of the online searches for these industries comes from mobile devices.

• Average loading time for a mobile landing page is 22 seconds. As the loading time increases, the probability of bouncing back increases too.
